What is Sales and Service Tax (SST) in Malaysia?

Sales and Service Tax (SST) is Malaysia’s indirect taxation system administered by the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (“RMCD”)

The SST system consists of two components:

1.      Sales Tax

·       A tax imposed on taxable goods manufactured locally or imported into Malaysia.

2.      Service Tax

·       A tax imposed on prescribed services provided by registered service providers.

Currently, the Service Tax rate is generally 8% for most taxable services, depending on the category defined under Malaysian tax regulations.

Businesses registered under SST are responsible for collecting the tax from customers and remitting it to the government in accordance with RMCD guidelines

  • The tax applies only to applicable successful loan services
  • The applicable 8% Service Tax rate is prescribed under Malaysian tax legislation.
  • The tax collected will be remitted to the government through RMCD
